Chitose Salmon Aquarium
Summary

This freshwater aquarium is located in Michi no Eki Salmon Park Chitose by the Chitose River. Inside you can find massive 266 ton 5m by 12m tanks and around 60 smaller tanks housing salmon and a variety of northern fish. At the Water Observatory, which gives you a direct view of the Chitose River, you can see the salmon swimming downstream in spring, the Japanese dace laying eggs in summer, the salmon returning in autumn and laying eggs in winter – there’s a new show every season! In autumn (mid-August to late November) there is an Indian water wheel set up, and you can see it catching salmon.
